How to use n-up pdf — multiple pages per sheet

  1. Open your PDF

Drag and drop your PDF onto the upload area, or click to choose a file. The file stays on your device — there is no server upload.

  2. Pick a grid layout

Choose from six layouts — 1×2 or 2×1 for 2-up, 2×2 for 4-up, 2×3 or 3×2 for 6-up, or 3×3 for 9-up. The first dimension is columns, the second is rows. Pages are placed in reading order (left-to-right, top-to-bottom).

  3. Lay out the grid

USA Sky PDF embeds your source pages as reusable form objects, draws them in the grid you picked with a small margin and gap, and saves a new PDF. Each source page is scaled uniformly to fit its cell — nothing is stretched or cropped.

  4. Download the n-up PDF

Click N-up PDF to save the new .pdf to your device. The original file is untouched.

Why use USA Sky PDF

  • Your file stays on your device

Nothing is uploaded. The n-up layout runs entirely in your browser, and the new file is saved straight to your downloads folder.

  • Six layouts cover the common cases

2-up vertical or horizontal, 4-up, 6-up vertical or horizontal, and 9-up. Enough variety for booklet handouts (2-up), classroom packets (4-up), reading copies (6-up), and contact sheets (9-up).

  • Scaled to fit, never stretched

Each source page is uniformly scaled to fit its cell, with the same letterbox behavior as Resize PDF. Aspect ratios stay correct.

  • Free with no signup

No account, no email, no watermarks. There's nothing to upgrade for this tool because nothing leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is N-up really free?

Yes. Free with no signup and no per-conversion limit.

Does the file leave my computer?

No. The n-up layout runs entirely in your browser. USA Sky PDF's servers never see your PDF for this tool.

What size are the output sheets?

Same dimensions as the first source page. A Letter-size source produces Letter-size n-up sheets; an A4 source produces A4 sheets. If your source PDF has mixed page sizes (e.g. a Letter page followed by Tabloid pages), all output sheets follow the first.

Are bookmarks preserved?

The document outline (bookmarks) carries through. PDF Page Labels ("i", "ii", "1", "2" chapter-style numbering) are dropped because the N-pages-to-1-sheet mapping doesn't translate cleanly. Most viewers use the outline more than Page Labels for navigation, so this is a small loss in practice.

Can I adjust the margins and gap between cells?

Not in v1 — margin is fixed at 12 points (1/6 inch) and gap between cells at 6 points. These are the standard handout values. If you need a different layout, the editor's free-form add-text and shape tools let you build a custom one.

How is this different from Resize PDF?

N-up combines multiple source pages onto each output sheet. Resize keeps one page per sheet but changes the sheet's dimensions. Different goals — pick N-up for printing multiple pages per sheet, pick Resize for changing paper size.
