Does this support non-Latin characters in titles and author names?
Yes — Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Arabic, and emoji all round-trip cleanly. We write hex-encoded UTF-16BE strings for any field that contains non-ASCII characters, which is the PDF 1.7 standard format for Unicode metadata.
What about XMP metadata?
This tool edits the classic /Info dictionary that 99% of viewers display — Acrobat Reader, Adobe Acrobat Pro, macOS Preview, Chrome's PDF viewer, file-manager preview panels. Modern PDFs may also embed an XMP metadata stream (XML); some specialised tools read XMP first and would still show the old values until you also rewrite XMP. For most users, /Info is what File → Properties shows and what they're trying to change.
Why does the Producer field sometimes look different after I clear it?
The raw saved bytes correctly show your cleared field — Acrobat Reader and Preview will display empty Producer as you saved it. However, if a third-party tool re-saves your PDF with default options, it may auto-stamp a Producer string on its side as part of its save process. The PDF you save here has the cleared field; what other tools display after passing it through their own pipelines is up to them.
Will this break my bookmarks, form fields, or annotations?
No. We only edit the /Info dictionary. Bookmarks (outline), form fields (AcroForm), annotations, page labels, and OpenAction settings are all untouched.
